Dissensus

Is everything, anything significant?
Is anything, everything important?

One thing is always like another,
we just don't always know how.

We live in a Fippy Darkpaw world.
You’ll say we don’t—but look
harder, we do.

Changing what you say is one option.
Changing what you mean when you say what you say is another.

I think that I shall never see
a poem as lovely as a poem.

Do you want to be serious
or do you want to be sincere, they ask me.

The best you can hope for is that others take you seriously?

Put a price on dignity
and people will line up to cash in.

You can’t persuade me
to be as small as culture,
to habituate to the illusions
of unity, sanity, security—
you can threaten me
but I’m not listening.

When did I decide that I needed adversaries?
When did I stop believing in friends?
